Ichi the Killer
Director: Takashi Miike
Year: 2001
Run Time: 120 mins
Classification: 18
Nao Omori plays Ichi - A disturbed man who after killing his own mother, was fed lies in order to manipulate him into murdering gangsters. The most infamous is Tadanobu Asano's character "Kakihara" - an ultimate sadist & massacist who thrives off pain (both giving and receiving).
STORY:
The story is really good. It's based on the manga so it still has a very extreme cartoon feel to it. This makes it a thrilling exciting action film which will make you go weak at the knees.
There are some crazy special effects in this movie which help to make this an extremely gross and violent action thriller. Not one to watch whilst you're eating your food (though it didn't stop me! LOL).
There are lots of plot twists and surprises, and the story unfolds in a way that keeps you interested, always wondering what is to happen next.
CINEMATOGRAPHY:
Cinematography is immense! There is a blend of CGI, latex & make-up fx and some bewildering camera movements. I especially love the slow motion scenes towards the end. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat even longer and gets your full undivided attention for the ultimate climax!
SOUND:
Sound effects are too good (you'll see what I mean if you watch this one whilst eating food). Music is very intense and energetic and compliments the theme of the movie brilliantly.
OVERALL:
Wow - what a great movie. A must for all to watch - especially if you like gory action thrillers which keeps you on the edge of your seat and turn your stomach!
Rating: 5 / 5
