Audition Director: Takashi Miike Year: 1999 Run Time: 115 mins Classification: 18 Eihi Shiina plays "Asami Yamazaki", a seemingly delicate innocent girl who is tricked into attending an Audition for a movie that will never be made. The real reason for the Audition is to find Ryo Ishibashi's character "Shigeharu Aoyama" a new partner who's wife died many years ago. At first he thinks it's a really bad idea, but falls in love at first sight with Asami. However, he soon discovers there are dark secrets she is hiding and she is not who she claims to be. STORY: This is a really great story. It's a thriller / horror story based around real people. A little slow for the western viewer in parts, but patience is well rewarded further into the film and right up to an unforgettable climax! CINEMATOGRAPHY: Excellent camera work and gruesome special effects. Not one to watch whilst you eat though. SOUND: Music and sound effects blend in well with the theme and story of the movie. They help create unsettling atmospheres and that feeling that something is about to go terribly wrong! OVERALL: Top class film that any sadistic maniac would wanna see. Very gruesome and disturbing, but gripping and eye opening nonetheless. You gotta see this movie if you like suspense / thrillers. Rating: 4 / 5 SCREENSHOTS:
